Livingstone Claims Highway 52 Shootout Champions Title

With a 74-51 win over Virginia University of Lynchburg, the Livingstone College men's basketball team improved to 2-0 and claimed the 2012 Highway 52 Shootout Champions title at Pfeiffer University. Jody Hill was named MVP while Ethan Anderson was named to the All-Tournament team.
 
Hill was named MVP after he scored a game-high 17 points in the first half alone, one rebound and one steal. Anderson made the All-Tournament team following his 11 points and three rebounds performance against the Dragons.
 
The Blue Bears started out strong against VUL by going on a 9-0 run, and maintained their composure to finish how they started by keeping a lead the Dragons couldn't break.
 
Livingstone forced the Dragons to commit 24 turnovers in which the Blue Bears converted to 22 points.
 
The Blue Bears out-rebounded the Dragons 43-27; 20 of those rebounds where offensive giving Livingstone the opportunity to score 23 second chance points.
 
Livingstone was paced by Eladio Espinoza's 11 points, eight rebounds and two blocks; while Anthony Welch finished with 10 points, two blocks and one steal.
 
The Blue Bears will travel to Elkins, West Virginia to take on Davis & Elkins College, on Tuesday, November 13.
