Newman's 30 Points Tops VUU 108-103

SALISBURY - Livingstone's men won high-scoring CIAA basketball game with Virginia Union, 108-103, at New Trent Gym on Wednesday night.

The Blue Bears snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 9-14 overall and 4-7 in the CIAA. Virginia Union falls to 12-12 and 5-7 in the conference.
Ty Newman led Livingstone with a game-high 30 points and also grabbed eight rebounds.

Eric Dubose followed Newman with 23 points while Daryl Trynham scored 20 and dished out 11 assists.

Nasir Austin scored 14 points and Cordero Holt added 10 as Livingstone had five players in double figures. Austin also pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.

Ray Anderson paced the Panthers with 29 points, Kory Cooley followed with 26 and Tavon Mealy contributed 14. Danny McElroy had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Both teams stayed hot throughout the game, both shooting 50 percent from the field.

Livingstone shot an amazing 83 percent from the foul line, making 30 of 36 free throws.

The Blue Bears return to action on Saturday with a CIAA contest at Shaw (Raleigh) at 4 p.m.
