ELIZABETH CITY — Livingstone shot the basketball very well and rolled past Elizabeth City State, 70-49, Thursday night in CIAA women's action.

The Blue Bears, 9-4 overall and 3-0 in the conference, made almost half of their 3-point field goals (7-of-15) for the game. Livingstone enjoyed a 12-point lead at halftime and blew the Vikings out in the third quarter, going up by 24 points at 52-28 at the 2:16-mark.

Guard Zena Lovette scored 12 of her game-high 14 points during the third period, leading the Livingstone rout. Senior guard Amber Curtis also had a strong third period, scoring six of her 12 points.

The Vikings, 4-8 overall and 1-3 in the CIAA, prevailed in the fourth quarter, 15-12, but it was way too little too late.

In the first half, Livingstone shot 40 percent (13-of-32), including 4-of-9 from three-point range. The Blue Bears turned a six-point lead with 2:39 left in the half into a 35-23 advantage at the break.

The 8-2 run to close the second quarter was led by five points from Bria Patterson and three from Wende Foster. Patterson and Brittany Taylor each scored 10 points in the first half.

On the Blue Bears' first possession of the third quarter, Zena Lovette nailed a 3-pointer, giving Livingstone a commanding 38-23 lead.

Taylor followed Lovette in the Livingstone scoring with 13 points and she also had a game-high nine rebounds. Patterson finished with 10 points, following Curtis' 12.

Lovette, Foster, Curtis and Alexis Fowler each grabbed six rebounds for the Blue Bears. Patterson had five assists and was perfect (4-for-4) at the foul line.

Elizabeth City St. was led by Breona Jones' 13 points and 12 from Jaylin Brown.

Livingstone won the rebound battle, 46-34, including 16 boards off the offensive glass.

Coach Anita Howard's Blue Bears return to action on Saturday, with a 1 p.m. game at Virginia State.
