Baltimore, MD- The women's basketball team saw its season come to an end Wednesday afternoon, falling 72–51 to Bowie State in the quarterfinal round of the CIAA Tournament at CFG Bank Arena.
Livingstone opened the contest with poise, battling the Bulldogs through a tightly contested first quarter. The score was tied four times in the game, and the lead changed hands twice early as both teams looked to settle in. The Blue Bears trailed just 16–16 after the opening period, showing early resilience on the big stage.
However, Bowie State found its rhythm in the second quarter. Using strong interior play and transition scoring, the Bulldogs outscored Livingstone 17–9 in the frame to take a 33–25 halftime advantage. Bowie State dominated the paint throughout the contest, finishing with 42 points inside and 17 fast-break points.
Despite the deficit, the Blue Bears continued to compete in the third quarter. Senior forward
Breasia Coit delivered a standout performance, recording a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 17 rebounds while anchoring the boards defensively.
Ny'Asia Green also added 14 points and three steals, providing energy on both ends of the floor.
Boston Bates chipped in eight points, going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.
Livingstone pulled within striking distance at moments in the third, but Bowie State responded with efficient shooting and balanced scoring. The Bulldogs shot 40.9% from the field and capitalized on turnovers, converting 19 Livingstone miscues into 24 points.
In the fourth quarter, Bowie State pulled away, outscoring Livingstone 20–15 to seal the victory. The Bulldogs' depth proved decisive, as their bench contributed 26 points compared to six from the Blue Bears' reserves.
Livingstone finished the game shooting 28.1% from the field and 21.4% from three-point range. While the shots didn't fall consistently, the Blue Bears battled on the glass with 33 total rebounds and 15 second-chance points.
Though the result was not what they hoped for, Livingstone closes out its season having competed with heart and determination. The experience gained in tournament play will serve as motivation moving forward, as the Blue Bears now turn their focus toward growth, development, and building momentum for next season.
