Blue Bears Fall 67-58 to VSU

Petersburg, VA - The men's basketball team suffered a 67-58 loss to the Trojans of Virginia State University on Saturday evening.

The Blue Bears fall 10-4 overall and 2-2 in the league.

The Blue Bears struggled offensively to the Trojans who finished the game shooting 40 percent from the field.  In the first half the Blue Bears battled back-and-forth and finished the half in the lead 33-28. The Trojans defense stopped the Blue Bears top players Mark Thomas and Jody Hill. Mark Thomas finished the game with four points. Although his shots didn't fall, he was consistent in finding his fellow teammates as he recorded six assists, four steals and one block.

Hill hit two-of-seven shots from behind the three point line. He finished the game with nine points.

The Blue Bears bench performance kept the Livingstone in the game as they scored 32 points collectively compared to the Trojans' 22 points. Emarri Bailey stepped up for the Blue Bears, and with his performance, he led the Blue Bears in scoring with 13 points and five rebounds.

Anthony Welch added nine points to the score and grabbed four rebounds. Eric Mayo scored eight points and recorded eight rebounds for the Blue Bears.

The Blue Bears hit 22-of-60 shots (36 percent) from the field and hit 10-of-16 shots at the free throw line.

Livingstone will return to action on Monday, January 13 as they travel to Murfreesboro, NC to face Chowan University.  Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m.
