SALISBURY, NC – The Livingstone women's basketball team was outscored 31-7 over the final 10 minutes Monday as the Shaw University Bears defeated the Blue Bears 82-61 in a come-from-behind victory.
The two teams were all square after 20 minutes at 33-33, but Livingstone was able to come out very strong to start the second half and grab a 42-36 lead just over two minutes into the half. The Blue Bears were able to maintain their lead over the next seven minutes and led 54-51 with 10 minutes remaining.
Livingstone was unable to hold onto the lead as Shaw went on a 13-0 run to open a 64-54 lead over the Blue Bears, one that Livingstone couldn't recover from. Shaw extended its run to 31-7 over the final 10 minutes of the contest.
In the first half Shaw got off to an early 8-0 lead, but Livingstone battled back on an 11-0 run to take an 11-8 lead with 10:53 left in the first half. Shaw went back up by as much as seven points with 5:59 on the clock, but another Blue Bear run, this time 10-0, gave Livingstone a 26-23 edge with 4:21 remaining in the first half. Shaw led into the final minute of the first half, but a Kendra McKinney jumper with 30 seconds left sent the game into the break tied 33-33.
Kendra McKinney led the Blue Bears with 16 points while Jasmine Murray added 13 points and Kelcyn Manurs finished with 10. Murray also led the Blue Bears with eight rebounds.
Livingstone shot 33.3 percent from the field for the game, but struggled from long range, connecting on only 15.4 percent of its three-point attempts. The Blue Bears converted 85 percent for their attempts from the charity stripe.
The Blue Bears will remain at home for their next contest which will be Saturday at 5:30 p.m. against the Broncos of Fayetteville State University.
