SALISBURY, NC – Jasmine Murray tied a career-high with 26 points Saturday, but it wasn't enough as the Blue Bears fell 82-68 to the Rams of Winston-Salem State University.
Livingstone shook off its typical slow start and was able to take a four-point edge over the Rams in the first five minutes of the contest. The Blue Bears stretched their lead to as much as six, but Winston-Salem fought back to tie the game at 12-12 with 12:32 left in the first half.
The two teams were again tied at 15-15 with 9:14 on the clock, but the Blue Bears then went on a 9-2 run and opened a 24-17 lead with 7:42 left. The Rams slowly cut into the Livingstone lead and worked their way back into a tie at 32-32 with 97 seconds left in the first half. Livingstone regained a two-point edge, but the Rams took the final five points of the half to take a 37-34 lead into the break.
Winston-Salem came out very strong to start the second half and opened a six-point lead just over three minutes into the second period. The Blue Bears trailed by only two at 50-48 with 14:32 remaining, but a 9-0 Ram run gave Winston-Salem a 59-48 lead with 12:39 to play in the contest. Livingstone was only briefly able to get the deficit into single digits before falling 82-68.
Murray recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 26 points and 13 rebounds. Also in double figures was Stella Holloway who finished with 17 points.
Livingstone shot 42.4 percent from the field including 16.7 percent from three-point range. The Blue Bears struggled from the charity stripe, converting only 55.6 of their free throw attempts.
The Blue Bears will next host the Bears of Shaw University on Monday in a 5:30 p.m. contest inside New Trent Gymnasium.
