Blue Bear Women Fall 78-55 at Johnson C. Smith in Regular-Season Finale

Final Stats

CHARLOTTE, NC
– The Livingstone women's basketball team was unable to contain the hot shooting of the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls Saturday evening as the Blue Bears dropped their regular-season finale 78-55.

The Blue Bears avoided the slow start that has plagued them this year, trailing only 7-5 after the first three minutes.  Livingstone continued to hang tough with the Golden Bulls, trailing only 16-11 with 13:11 left in the first half, but then went cold from the field.

Livingstone went scoreless for nearly six minutes while Johnson C. Smith went on a 14-0 run to open a 30-11 edge with 8:58 left in the opening half.  The run for Johnson C. Smith was fueled heavily by the three-point shot as the Golden Bulls went 7-for-13 from long range in the first half.  The Blue Bears were able to put a stop to the Golden Bull run and stay within striking distance, trailing 43-26 at the half.

In the second half, the Blue Bears were just unable to stop the hot shooting of the Golden Bulls.  Johnson C. Smith went up by as much as 34 before taking the 78-55 victory.

Jasmine Murray led the way for the Blue Bears with 11 points.  Elicia Gilliam-Washington and Tiffany Evans each added eight points.  Stella Holloway led the Blue Bears with seven rebounds.

The next game for the Blue Bears will come in the conference tournament.  While the official announcement will come from the CIAA on Monday, Livingstone will be the sixth seed out of the Southern Division and will play Virginia State, the third seed out of the Northern Division on Tuesday.  The game time will be announced Sunday by the conference office.  The 2012 CIAA Tournament will be played at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, NC.
