The Livingstone College women's basketball team defeated Claflin University 70-61 on Wednesday in Orangeburg, South Carolina.
Cierra York pulled away with a double-double night, 20 points and 10 rebounds.
The Lady Blue Bears took an early lead in the first half by leading as much as 21 points. Paced by York's 12 points, Livingstone went into the locker room with a 38-21 advantage over Claflin. Both teams committed 13 turnovers, but the Lady Blue Bears were able to score 20 points off of the Lady Panthers' turnovers. The Lady Panthers only shot 17 percent from the field while the Lady Blue Bears shot 53 percent from the field.
In the second half, the Lady Panthers picked up their defense and was able to outscore Livingstone 40-32. Claflin forced LC to commit 19 turnovers to their own 7. The Lady Panthers scored 14 points off of the Lady Blue Bears mistakes, but it wasn't enough to defeat the Lady Blue Bears. At the 5:48 minute mark, Livingstone led by 22 points.
Ashley Walker contributed to the Lady Blue Bears win with 15 points, while
Diamond Tolliver added to the score with 11 points.
Jasmine Murray grabbed an impressive 15 rebounds for Livingstone.
The Lady Blue Bears improve their record to 3-4 on the season.
Livingstone will return to action on December 10 as they go head-to-head with the Barber-Scotia College Lady Sabers, in Concord, NC.
