Blue Bears Top Davis & Elkins 75-70

The Livingstone College men's basketball team defeated Davis & Elkins College 75-70 in Elkins, West Virginia on Tuesday. The Blue Bears had five players to score double figures over the Senators.

Davis & Elkins gave the Blue Bears stiff competition in the first half by leading 34-27. The Senators also began the second half in control. However, their lead began to fade with less than five minutes on the clock as both teams battled point-for-point. The Blue Bears turned up their defensive pressure, and Jody Hill's block at the 1:32 mark gave Eladio Espinoza the spark he needed to hit a three pointer and to go up by four points, 72-68.

Concentration at the free throw line proved to be the winning factor of this game. The Senators were forced to foul due to being down 72-70 with less a minute on the clock. In the stretch Mark Thomas made both of his free throw shots, taking the lead to 74-70; and Hill made one-of-two free throw shots to end the game.

The Blue Bears were guided by Hill's 15 points and four steals. Hill made five-of-six shots from the charity stripe, and shot 50 percent behind the three point line.

Also for Livingstone, Espinoza and Thomas paced the Blue Bears offense with 14 points apiece. Espinoza grabbed a game high eight rebounds and also had four assists. Tyler Johnson and Ethan Anderson scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds respectively.

Livingstone improves their record to 3-0 this season.

The Blue Bears return to action Friday and Saturday as they travel down I-85 to compete in the Johnson C. Smith University Tournament in Charlotte.
