RALEIGH, NC – The Livingstone women's basketball team struggled to contain the Shaw University Bears Saturday afternoon as the Blue Bears fell 101-72.
Livingstone struggled early in the first half, going scoreless over the initial 5:09 of the contest as Shaw built a 20-0 lead. It wasn't until Cierra York connected on a layup with 14:51 remaining in the first half that the Blue Bears got on the scoreboard. The points by the Blue Bears didn't slow down Shaw as the Bears increased their lead to as much as 36 points at 44-8 with 6:50 remaining. Shaw took a 56-29 lead into the break.
The shooting for the Blue Bears improved in the second half, but couldn't slow down Shaw. Livingstone got only as close as 20 points with 14:06 remaining before Shaw as able to take the game 101-72.
Kelcyn Manurs led the Blue Bears with 14 points including going 3-for-5 from beyond the three-point line. Cierra York added 13 points while Kendra McKinney contributed 11 points.
The Blue Bears will return to action on Monday when they return to Raleigh to take on the Falcons of St. Augustine's College in a 5:30 p.m. contest.
