Final Stats
SALISBURY, NC – The Livingstone women's basketball team was unable to overcome an 18-point first-half deficit Saturday evening as the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University defeated the Blue Bears 73-62.
The Blue Bears came out very slow to start the game. After the score was tied 2-2, the Golden Bulls went on an 22-4 run and grabbed a commanding 24-6 lead with 12:22 left in the first half. Livingstone was able to cut the lead to as little as seven with 6:47 on the clock, but Johnson C. Smith was able to finish the last four minutes of the first half on a positive note and took a 42-29 lead into the break.
Livingstone came out with more inspiration to start the second half. The Golden Bulls led 49-35 with 16:45 remaining, but the Blue Bears rattled off a 15-5 run to cut the deficit all the way down to only four points with 8:33 to play. After a Golden Bull turnover, the Blue Bears had multiple opportunities on their next possession to get even closer, but were unable to get the critical bucket.
Johnson C. Smith worked their lead back to 11 points with just under five minutes left and it was a lead that the Blue Bears were unable to come back from as the Golden Bulls took home the victory.
Kelcyn Manurs led the Blue Bears with 17 points while Montiya Harrison added 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Jasmine Murray led the team on the boards with eight rebounds.
The Blue Bears shot 31 percent from the field, but struggled from long range, hitting only 2-of-13 attempts. Johnson C. Smith shot 40.4 percent from the field and the Blue Bears limited the Golden Bulls to only 1-of-14 from three-point range.
Livingstone will play its final non-conference contest of the season Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. against Allen University in Columbia, SC.
