WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Livingstone women's basketball team couldn't contain the hot shooting of the Winston-Salem State Rams Saturday night as the Blue Bears fell 75-53.
Livingstone jumped out to an early 6-3 lead, but Winston responded in a big way with a 14-1 run to take a 17-7 advantage with 11:40 left in the first half. The run set the tone for the remainder of the half as the Rams were able to slowly increase their lead. Winston took a 42-21 lead into the break.
The Blue Bears kicked off the second half strong, scoring on their first three possessions before the Rams put points on the board to get within 16 with 18:44 left. Livingstone trailed by only 14 with 12:41 left, but a big 11-2 run by the Rams opened up a 62-39 lead, one the Blue Bears couldn't overcome.
Livingstone shot only 25.4 percent from the floor for the game and connected on only three of 23 three-point attempts. Free throws were again a problem as the Blue Bears hit only 61.5 percent of their attempts. The Rams hit 43.1 percent of their shots from the floor.
The loss dropped the Blue Bears' record to 12-5 overall, 6-3 in the conference and 2-2 in the division.
The Blue Bears will stay on the road Monday evening when they head to Raleigh, NC for a 6 p.m. contest against the Shaw University Bears.
