Livingstone Women Down Bennett 108-46 in Non-Conference Affair

– The Livingstone women's basketball team picked up an easy non-conference victory Thursday evening, defeating Bennett College 108-46.
Livingstone (13-6) received production from every player on its roster Thursday evening as each athlete had double-digit minutes and all players scored and recorded rebounds.
The Blue Bears had six players score in double figures with three players recording career highs. Shaquetta Brooks led the Blue Bears with 16 points while LaBarbara Martin had 12 points and Endia Hill finished with 10 points, each career highs. Also in double figures were Brittany Wright with 14 points, Jasmine Murray with 12 points and Tiffany Evans with 11 points.
Livingstone jumped out to a 17-0 lead in the first 4:23 of the first half. Bennett scored its first bucket of the contest at the 15:23 mark. The Blue Bears hit a 20-point cushion with 10:23 left and slowly increased its lead over the remainder of the half. Livingstone led 44-15 with 7:05 left before going on a 12-0 run to take a 56-15 lead with 4:32 left. The Blue Bears took a 67-25 lead into the break.
The second half was little more than a formality as the Blue Bear lead hit 50 points with 12:24 to go in the game. With 9:13 to play and the Livingstone lead at 91-38, Bennett had its third player foul out of the game. Bennett entered the game with only seven players, so was forced to play with only four players for the remainder of the contest.
The Blue Bears had their best shooting night of the season, hitting 57.1 percent of their shots from the field en route to the second-highest scoring output of the season. Livingstone hit 20 percent from three-point range and 73.5 percent from the charity stripe. The Blue Bears dominated down low, outscoring Bennett 56-8 in the paint. Livingstone also forced 36 Bennett turnovers, which turned into 44 Blue Bear points.
The Livingstone women will return to conference play on Saturday when the Blue Bears head to Fayetteville, NC for a 5:30 p.m. contest against the Broncos of Fayetteville State University.
