SALISBURY, NC – Freshman Cierra York recorded her first career double-double Thursday to lead five Blue Bears in double-figure scoring as Livingstone snapped a five-game losing skid, defeating Barber-Scotia 96-64.
York finished with a career-high 22 points and 13 boards to lead all scorers. Also in double figures was Kelcyn Manurs with 14, Mariah Hardin with 13, Rashida Elbourne with 12 and Jasmine Murray with 11 points.
The Blue Bears (2-5) took a little while to really get going Thursday. Livingstone jumped out to a 13-4 lead in the first six minutes of the game, but the Sabers went on an 11-0 run, fueled mainly by free throws to take a 15-13 with 10:38 left in the first half.
Baber-Scotia continued to lead 18-17, but the Blue Bears finally got it going, taking 17 of the next 20 points to take a 34-21 edge. Over the final five minutes of the first half the two teams traded buckets at each end of the floor and Livingstone took a 50-30 lead into the break.
Livingstone continued the scoring going into the second half as its lead stayed in the 20-point range for the remainder of the game. The Blue Bears connected on a jumper with 10 seconds left to reach their largest lead of the game of 32 points and take the game 96-64.
The Blue Bears hit 33-of-83 shots from the floor for a shooting percentage of 39.8 percent. Livingstone hit 44.4 percent of its three-point attempts and converted 22-of-30 free throws. The Blue Bears outrebounded the Sabers 61-56 and dominated the paint 40-14.
The Blue Bears will head onto the road on Saturday to Charlotte, NC to take on the Queens University Royals for a 2 p.m. contest.
