Blue Bears Force 39 Turnovers in 72-61 Victory Over Lincoln

, NC – The Livingstone women's basketball team forced 39 turnovers Saturday which helped the Blue Bears overcome some cold shooting to down the Lincoln University Lions 72-61.
 
The win evened the conference record for the Blue Bears at 1-1 and improved their overall record to 6-3. Lincoln fell to 0-2 in the CIAA and 1-8 overall.
 
Rashida Elbourne led the Blue Bears with 19 points and also grabbed five rebounds. Jasmine Murray recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds while Brittany Wright came up just short with 10 points and nine boards.
 
Lincoln came out very strong to start the first half. After the Blue Bears grabbed the first two points, the Lions went on an 11-1 run to take an 11-3 lead with 15:37 left in the first half. Lincoln continued to hold its lead through the first 10 minutes of the first half and hit its largest cushion of 11 points with 10 minutes left.
 
Livingstone responded in a big way to the 10-point deficit, rattling off an 11-0 run to tie the game at 19-19 with 6:52 left on the clock. Lincoln regained a 21-19 edge, but Livingstone again went on a big run. The Blue Bears hit a 14-2 spurt and held a 10-point cushion with 1:46 left, but the Lions finished off the half on their own 7-0 run and the Blue Bears had a three-point edge at the break.
 
Lincoln kept the game close in the early goings of the second half. Lincoln trailed by only five with 17:24 left, but that was as close as the Lions got to the Blue Bears. Livingstone went on a quick 6-0 run to open up a double-digit edge with 13:46 left. Down the stretch the Blue Bears had to turn up the defense to offset their field-goal and free-throw shooting. 
 
The Blue Bears shot only 29 percent from the field on 24 percent from three-point range. The free-throw line was also less than charitable to Livingstone as the Blue Bears hit only 52.5 percent of their free-throw attempts. The Blue Bears scored 27 points off of the 39 Lion turnovers.
 
The Blue Bears are slated to head onto the road on Monday to Lawrenceville, VA to take on the St. Paul's College Tigers for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
