Blue Bear Women Fall to Kentucky Wesleyan 79-72

, OH – The Livingstone women's basketball team fell to Kentucky Wesleyan Saturday 79-72 in the fifth game of the Ben Waterman Classic hosted by Central State University.

 

Kentucky came out and grabbed the first seven points of the game, but Livingstone wasn't put off for too long.  The Blue Bears slowly climbed back into the contest and took its first lead of the game at 16-15 with 8:58 left in the first half.  The lead was short lived as Kentucky went on an 11-3 run to take a 26-19 lead with 4:19 left.

 

Wesleyan continued to lead by four points with 3:11 left, but Livingstone was able to fight back before halftime.  The Blue Bears trailed by only one with 1:53 left and Cassaundra Rhodes gave the Blue Bears a one-point edge with 14 seconds left in the half, a lead Livingstone took into the break.

 

Livingstone struggled to score to start the second half as Kentucky took full advantage.  With 13:18 left in the game, Kentucky held a seven-point edge and moved it to double digits as the clock ticked under 10 minutes left.  Wesleyan reached its largest lead of the game of 13 points with 8:33 left, but the Blue Bears weren't going down quietly. 

 

Livingstone trailed by 12 with 7:32 left, but went on a 9-0 run and got within three points with 5:51 left on the clock.  The strong run by the Blue Bears was quickly matched by Kentucky, who went on a 7-0 run to regain a 10-point edge.  Livingstone was only able to get within five points in the final minutes as it fell 79-72.

 

Freshman Tiffany Evans led the Blue Bears with 15 points and also grabbed four rebounds.  Brittany Wright recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds while Cassaundra Rhodes added 10 points and eight rebounds.

 

With the loss, the Blue Bears fell to 5-2 overall, snapping their five-game winning streak.

 

The Blue Bears will now be off for the holidays and will return to the court on December 30 against Lees-McRae.
