WILBERFORCE, OH – The Livingstone women's basketball team defeated the Central State University Marauders 82-64 Friday in the third game of the Ben Waterman Classic.
The Blue Bears improved to 5-1 on the season with the victory while Central State fell to 2-5.
Senior Brittany Wright led the Blue Bears with 19 points and eight rebounds while sophomore Jasmine Murray tallied 15 points and seven boards and senior Cassaundra Rhodes added 10 points.
Livingstone dominated Central State to start the game. The Blue Bears jumped out to a 10-1 lead in the first 4:15 of the opening stanza. Over the next five minutes Livingstone continued to take it to the Marauders as the Blue Bears opened up a 19-point lead at 24-5 with 10:48 left in the first half.
Central State tried to work its way back into the contest going on an 8-0 run to get within 11 points with 9:18 remaining in the half. Livingstone remained unphased by the Marauder run and continued to maintain a double-digit cushion. The Blue Bears took a 41-24 lead into the break.
The second half was a good back and forth battle between the two teams, but Livingstone was easily able to maintain its lead. The Blue Bears continued to lead by 16 points as the second half stretched past the 10-minute mark. Each run made by Central State was met by an equal and better Livingstone squad as the Blue Bears took home an 82-64 victory.
The Blue Bears shot 42 percent from the field including 43 percent from long range and 87.5 percent from the free-throw line. Livingstone won the rebounding battle 43-41 and committed four fewer turnovers than the Marauders.
Livingstone will have a short turn around as it will take on Kentucky Wesleyan Saturday at noon in the fifth game of the Ben Waterman Classic hosted by Central State University.
