GREENSBORO, NC – The Livingstone women's basketball team downed the Bennett College Belles 88-45 Tuesday evening in a non-conference contest.
With the victory the Blue Bears improved to 3-1 on the season while Bennett remained winless on the season.
Livingstone jumped out to a 10-0 lead just over five minutes into the contest before Bennett put its first points on the board. The Blue Bears continued to increase their lead throughout the first half and held a 20-point cushion at 25-5 with 8:52 left in the opening stanza. Bennett was unable to muster anything substantial offensively in the first half, scoring only 16 points and the Blue Bears took a 39-16 lead into the break.
The second half turned into a back and forth battle between the Belles and the Blue Bears, but Livingstone's lead was too much for Bennett to overcome. Livingstone reached a 40-point lead with just under 10 minutes to play in the second half and took the game 88-45.
Livingstone had four players score in double figures on Tuesday, led by sophomore Jasmine Murray who finished with 17 points and also grabbed nine rebounds. Rashida Elbourne finished with 13 points while Montiya Harrison and Brittany Wright each added 10 points. Shaquetta Brooks led the Blue Bears will 11 rebounds.
The Blue Bears shot 50 percent from the floor on 34-of-68 shooting. Livingstone struggled from the charity stripe hitting only 46 percent of its free-throw attempts. The Blue Bears won the rebounding battled 58-29.
The Blue Bears will have a short turnaround as they host cross-town rival Catawba Wednesday evening at 5:30 p.m. inside Trent Gymnasium.
