Wright and Murray Recorded Double-Doubles Saturday

Box Score

CHARLOTTE, NC
– Livingstone had two players record double-doubles Saturday, but the hot shooting of Wingate University was too much for the Blue Bears as the Bulldogs downed Livingstone 87-59 in the first game of the 2010 Queen City Classic.

Senior forward Brittany Wright scored 16 points and pulled down 13 rebounds while sophomore forward Jasmine Murray recorded her first career double-double with 13 points and 11 boards.

Livingstone got a quick start off the opening tip scoring two quick points followed by a steal and two more points to go up 4-0, but the lead and momentum dissolved quickly.  Wingate went on a 22-4 run over 5 minutes and 46 seconds of the first half to go up 22-8.

The Blue Bears continually tried to make a run at the Bulldogs, but Wingate was able to squash any Livingstone rally.  The Bulldogs led by as much as 28 points in the first half and took a 54-26 lead into halftime.

Wingate took the first four points of the second half before Livingstone turned up the full-court pressure on the Bulldogs which forced them into 20 second-half turnovers.  The Blue Bears were able to capitalize off of the Wingate turnovers and were within 21 with 13:10 left, but couldn't get any closer.

Livingstone shot 26.8 percent from the field, but only 14.3 percent from beyond the three-point arc, connecting on only two three pointers throughout the contest.  The Blue Bears were also 13-for-21 from the charity stripe.  Wingate shot 59.5 percent from the field in the first half and 48.5 percent for the game.  Wingate won the rebounding battle 59-43.

With the loss the Blue Bears fall to 0-1 on the season while Wingate improved to 2-1.

The Blue Bears will return to the court on Sunday at 2 p.m. when they face the Pfeiffer University Falcons in the third game of the Queen City Classic.
