Blue Bear Women's Basketball Falls to Catawba 101-74

– The Livingstone women's basketball team wasn't able to overcome a Catawba Indians team that shot 57 percent from the field Wednesday evening as they fell 101-74 to the Indians.

 

Senior guard Kayler McBride led the Blue Bears with 18 points while junior guard Montiya Harrison totaled 13 points.

 

Catawba came out with a hot shooting hand to start the game and the Blue Bears had no answer for them on the defensive end.  Catawba jumped out to an early 8-0 lead.  Livingstone cut the deficit to four at 10-6, but opened an even bigger lead of 17 behind a 17-4 run with 11:27 on the clock.  The Indians' lead remained in double digits for the remainder of the half.

 

The Blue Bears trailed by 21 with 9:44 to play in the first half, but were able to knock the Catawba lead down to 13 with 3:16 remaining, but couldn't keep the Catawba shots from falling.  Catawba was able to bump their lead back up to 21 at 53-32 at the half.

 

Livingstone shot 34.5 percent from the field in the first half while Catawba connected on 62.5 percent of their field goal attempts.  McBride and Harrison both had six points in the first half to lead the way for the Blue Bears.

 

To start the second half, the Blue Bears cut the Catawba lead down to 15, but couldn't get any closer.  Catawba went on a 10-2 run to go back up by 23.  Despite Livingstone's efforts on the offensive side of the ball, they were no match for Catawba who shot 51.6 percent in the second half.

 

Livingstone, as a team, shot 33.8 percent from the field, 26.3 percent from beyond the arc and 75.8 percent from the charity stripe. 

 

With the loss, the Blue Bears fell to 2-3 overall while Catawba improved to 2-1.

 

Livingstone's next contest is Saturday on the road when they take on the Bowie State Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m
