Livingstone Overcomes 16-Point Deficit To Defeat St. Paul's 74-71

Durant Knocked Down Two Cluth Free Throws Down The Stretch

SALISBURY, NC – The Livingstone men's basketball team overcame a 16-point second-half deficit to defeat the St. Paul's College Tigers 74-71 Monday evening at Trent Gym.

With the victory, Livingstone improved to 2-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

Livingstone was led offensively by junior forward Jarred Stockton who had 19 points.  Senior guard Aaron Caruthers also was in double digits with 18 points while sophomore forward Greg Henry also added 15.

The Blue Bears trailed by 16 points with 14:49 remaining in the second half.  Livingstone went on a 14-2 run over the next 5:54 to cut the Tiger lead to four points at 52-48, but St. Paul's responded.  They got their lead back up to 62-56 with 5:59 left and continued to lead by four with 1:48 left.

Livingstone continued to trail by two with 1:08 left, but with 47 seconds on the clock junior guard Donte Durant was fouled.  The foul was called intentional which meant the Blue Bears got two shots and the ball afterwards.  Durant knocked down both free throws to tie the game and the Blue Bears got the ball.  The ball was inbounded to Henry who was fouled with 44 seconds left.  He hit one of two free throws to put Livingstone up 71-70.

St. Paul's came back down the court and scored to go back up 71-70.  Livingstone still had fight in them as they marched down the court and Caruthers hit a jumper to put the Blue Bears back on top 72-71.  St. Paul's last chance came with less than 10 seconds left, but it fell short.  Livingstone got the board and Stockton hit two free throws with 1.7 seconds left to secure the victory.

Livingstone will be back in action on road at Bowie State on November 28.  The tip-off against the Bulldogs is set 7:30 p.m.
