Livingstone Men's Basketball Takes 72-69 OT Victory Over ECSU

– The Livingstone men's basketball team pulled out a 72-69 overtime victory Saturday night over the Vikings of Elizabeth City State to score their first victory of the season. 

 

With the victory the Blue Bears improved to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference while ECSU fell to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the CIAA.

 

Junior forward Jarred Stockton led four Blue Bears in double-figure scoring with 20 points.  Stockton also led the Blue Bears in rebounds with 13 boards.  Also in double figures was senior guard Aaron Caruthers with 15 points and senior forward and junior guard Donte Durant both scored 12 points each. 

 

Livingstone led by three points with 17 seconds to play in the second half after Caruthers connected on one of two free throws, but ECSU's Quintin Spady banked a three-point shot in with two seconds left to send the game into overtime.

 

The teams battled back and forth in overtime and Livingstone held a four-point edge with 50 seconds left, but ECSU connected on yet another three to cut the lead to one.  Livingstone worked the clock after a timeout with 36 seconds left and Megail Cannon put back a missed three pointer with two seconds left to put the Blue Bears back up three.  A last-second three pointer fell short by ECSU and Livingstone came away with the win.

 

Livingstone will next host the St. Paul's College Tigers Monday night at 7:30 p.m. at Trent Gym.
