Lady Blue Bears Come Up Short Against Fayetteville State

Salisbury, NCLivingstone College women's basketball jumped out to an early advantage but was unable to maintain momentum late, falling 64–55 to Fayetteville State University Wednesday evening at New Trent Gym.

The Lady Blue Bears opened the contest with energy, outscoring Fayetteville State 22–17 in the first quarter behind aggressive play on both ends of the floor. Livingstone shot over 42 percent in the opening period and held the Broncos in check early, building as much as an eight‑point lead.

Momentum shifted in the second quarter as Fayetteville State tightened defensively, holding Livingstone to just eight points in the period. The Broncos capitalized on timely baskets and trips to the free‑throw line to take a narrow 33–30 lead at halftime.

Livingstone responded coming out of the break, reclaiming control with an 18‑point third quarter. Breasia Coit and Ny'Asia Green led the charge inside and on the perimeter, helping the Blue Bears regain the advantage heading into the final ten minutes.

However, Fayetteville State closed the game strong, outscoring Livingstone 18–7 in the fourth quarter. The Broncos leaned on balanced scoring and bench production to pull away, holding Livingstone to just three field goals in the final period.

Coit led the Blue Bears with 13 points and 14 rebounds, recording another double‑double performance while anchoring the paint. Green added 11 points, connecting on three three‑pointers and contributing defensively with four steals. Nielle Reaves finished with 10 points, while Boston Bates chipped in six points, eight rebounds, and six assists.

Fayetteville State was paced by Talia Trotter's 14 points, while receiving major contributions off the bench, finishing with 28 bench points. The Broncos also capitalized at the free‑throw line, going 15‑for‑23 to secure the win.

Livingstone won the rebounding battle early and forced 21 Fayetteville State turnovers, converting them into 23 points, but struggled offensively late as shooting percentages dipped in the fourth quarter.

The Blue Bears will look to bounce back as they return home this Saturday, January 24, to host Johnson C. Smith University. The women's game is scheduled for 2 p.m., with the men's contest to follow at 4 p.m., though tip times are subject to change due to inclement weather.
