Women's Basketball Opens Up the Season at The Atlantic Region Tip-Off

SALISBURY – Coach Chiante Wester will begin her third season at Livingstone College on Saturday when the Blue Bears travel to Institute, West Virginia for the Atlantic Region Tip-Off.

Livingstone College will face West Virginia State University Saturday, November 12 at 6 p.m. in Walker Convention Center.

"We feel great to start the season," Coach Wester said. "We have a lot of returners who are excited and eager to build on last season. Our three incoming players have been impactful so far and will be contributors immediately. "

In her second season at Livingstone, Coach Wester led the Blue Bears to the CIAA Semi-Finals for the first time in over a decade. The Blue Bears went (8-20, 4-12) regular season and 2-1 post-season.

The Blue Bears have 12 players (seven starters) back from last year's team, but Livingstone College added talented freshmen and some key transfers.

With three newcomers, Livingstone will look to piece the newcomers and returners together on a team that enters the season predicted to finish tied for eighth.

Senior Guard Andresia Alexander is the lone returning starter from last year's team. Alexander is the top leading scoring returner with 8.4 points per game. She was named preseason All-CIAA as she looks to take a larger leadership role on this year's team. Forward Jamiah Lane (7.9 ppg) is also a returner that averaged over five points last season. Guard Alyssa Boyce (5.5 ppg) is entering her senior season and comes in averaging over five points per game. Kaley Woodruff, Sha'Terra Ferrell, and Madison Clay enter their senior season and second with coach Wester.

A 5'9 freshman shooting guard, Samiyah Briggs a star-studded recruit from Fort Lauderdale, Florida will play in her first collegiate game Saturday against West Virginia State University. Through the transfer portal, Livingstone also added two transfers in this year's cycle, Jardyn Alexander (Georgia) a 5'10 wing, as well as Briana Chambers (Australia) a 6'4 post player.

"We have a tough road ahead out of conference, and it only gets tougher as we get prepared for a competitive CIAA," said coach Wester. "Our goal is to stack the days and "Run as One."
