Tennis Picks up First Win of Season

SALISBURY -  The women's tennis team of Livingstone College put one in the win column, with a 5-4 defeat of Elizabeth City State University, in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association round-up in Charlotte, North Carolina at Johnson C. Smith University.

Livingstone won two doubles match and three singles matches against the Lady Vikings.

At number one doubles, Hadiyah Shaheer and Jada Holloway won 8-0, while Mariah Williams and Nanayakkara Crishanthi won 8-0, in the number two doubles play. The Lady Vikings picked up the victory in the third doubles match by a forfeit from the Lady Blue Bears.

Livingstone roared back in singles, winning three of six matches.

In the number one singles match, Shaheer defeated Lewis 6-0, 6-2, while Jones fell to Holland in the number two singles by default. Holloway picked up the number three singles play 6-2, 6-3 over Tatiana Cuffie, while Briana Henderson beat Crishanthi 7-5, 6-1 in the number four singles position. At the fifth singles match, Danielle Hill won 7-5, 6-1 over Mitchell. Livingstone grabbed the number six singles by a forfeit from the Lady Blue Bears.

The Blue Bears return to action on Thursday, March 30 when they take on Shaw University at 3:00 pm.
