Salisbury, N.C.- Entering their second match of the season, Livingstone College faced off against Winston-Salem State, who was projected to finish fifth in the CIAA standings, while Livingstone opened the season ranked ninth. The Lady Blue Bears started strong, clinching the first point by winning all three doubles matches, showcasing their teamwork and skill.
As the singles matches began, the Lady Bears continued to demonstrate resilience and determination, particularly against players who had earned weekly honors during the 2024 season. Livingstone's top three singles players delivered impressive performances, securing victories to bring the score to 4-0. However, the competition remained fierce, especially in the fourth spot where
Monica Castaldo engaged in a thrilling back-and-forth battle against one of Winston Salem's top players.
Despite having already secured the overall match win, the intensity didn't wane until Monica clinched her victory, cementing the Lady Bears' dominance at the top five spots. While Livingstone experienced losses in the #5 and #6 singles matches, the effort put forth by all players was commendable. The final score stood at 5-2, marking a significant triumph for Livingstone College.
This victory is particularly noteworthy as it has been 12 years since Livingstone College's women's tennis team defeated Winston Salem State. Congratulations to the Lady Bears on a remarkable performance!
