SALISBURY, N.C. - Head coach Marlon Henderson and his young women's tennis squad traveled to Petersburg, VA. to compete in the CIAA Championships this past weekend. The team displayed their strongest performance of the season, upsetting top-seeded Bluefield State and making it to the semifinals before being taken out by Johnson C. Smith.Â
The Blue Bears entered the tournament as the bottom seed in the southern division, facing the tall task of taking down the Big Blue, the top seed from the northern division. In the singles matches,
Marissa Paul, Bren're Taylor, and
Azia Thomas enjoyed dominant victories to give Livingstone three points. In the doubles matches, Taylor and Paul combined for a victory along with
Tanniya Womack and Thomas who each earned victories by at least four sets.Â
In the match against Johnson C. Smith, Livingstone fell just short to the Golden Bulls, 4-3, with the three victories coming via forfeit; ultimately ending the season for the young squad.Â
