Golden Bulls too strong for LC

CHARLOTTE -  Livingstone couldn't get enough defensive stops and fall to Johnson C. Smith, 89-81, on Monday at Johnson C. Smith's Brayboy Gym.

The Golden Bulls (10-8, 5-4 CIAA) shot 50 percent from the floor and stayed unbeaten (3-0) in Southern Division play.

They had three players with more than 20 points, with Diondre Pratt (24), Stedmon Lemon (23) and Alandre Davis (22) all producing big games. Lemon scored 17 points in the second half and 11 down the stretch.

Daryl Traynham had 22 points for Livingstone (8-12, 3-5 CIAA), including 8-for-10 foul shooting.

Nasir Austin shot 7-for-11 on his way to 19 points. Ty Newman was held to nine points but contributed 11 boards.

The game was tied 40-all at halftime. It was 62-all with six minutes left when Lemon hit a 3-pointer that put the Golden Bulls ahead to stay.

Two former North Rowan Cavaliers contributed for the Golden Bulls. Malik Ford scored a bucket, and Michael Bowman played well defensively in 11 minutes of action. Livingstone shot 42.2 percent for the game but only 31.4 percent in the second half.

J.C. Smith outscored the Blue Bears in the paint, 46-28.
