The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association announced the CIAA team GPA Awards for the 2013-2014 academic year on Monday Morning. In addition to the men's basketball team receiving the highest GPA award back in February, Livingstone College bestowed two more honors with the men's golf team and women's tennis team ranking at the top tier academically. The women's tennis team earned the second highest GPA out of the CIAA's 15 sports.
The men's golf team led by Athletics Director and Head Coach
Andre Springs posted a cumulative 3.28 GPA. The Blue Bears finished their 2013-2014 season with three student-athletes who competed in the PGA Minority Golf Championship.
Lawrence McKenzie finished 10
th with a score of 242.
Stephen Washington finished with a score of 265 for a 26
th place finish.
Telvin Walker placed 30
th with a final score of 272. Washington also made the All-CIAA Championship team and All-Conference squad. This is the second consecutive year for the men's golf team to win the CIAA team highest GPA award.
The women's golf team, led by Head Coach
Gwen Jackson, combined to earn a grade-point average of 3.57, the conference's highest honor. The Lady Blue Bears finished with first year tennis player
Shondra Redfern earning All-CIAA honors.
"The focus at the CIAA is on our student-athletes from both an athletic and academic perspective. We are proud to see a strong showing from the member institutions in our conference. Congratulations to all the teams who work hard year-round on and off-the field," said Commissioner Jacqie McWilliams.
