Livingstone Takes JCSU 68-56

Mark Thomas' 19 points, handed out four assists and grabbed six rebounds to lead Livingstone to a 68-56 CIAA victory over Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC Saturday night.

The Blue Bears led 34-27 at the half while blocking nine shots and forcing the Golden Bulls to commit 16 turnovers. The Blue Bears outscored the Golden Bulls in points off turnovers 22-13.

Livingstone's stifling defense held J.C. Smith's Trevin Parks to only 13 points as he entered the game ranked third in the NCAA scoring at 25.6 points per game. While the Blue Bears defense held Parks to a low scoring night, their defense also only allowed JCSU to hit 1-of-14 shots from behind the three point line.

As a team, the Blue Bears connected 27-of-63 shots from the field for a shooting average of 42. 9 percent. Livingstone shot 73 percent from the free throw line as well.

The Golden Bulls shot 37.9 percent from the field.

Ethan Anderson scored 14 points to round the Blue Bears double-figure scoring.

The win breaks Coach Stinson's previous record for most wins in a single season, and improves the Blue Bears to 18-5 overall and 10-4 in the CIAA.

Livingstone will return to action February 20 when they host St. Augustine's University. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m.
