Johnson C. Smith University pulled away from a 40-40 halftime tie to defeat the Livingstone College Blue Bears 97-89 on Saturday night at New Trent Gymnasium.
Led by Trevin Parks 34 points, the Golden Bulls shot 60 percent from the field on 36-of-60 field goal attempts. Parks, who is currently third in CIAA scoring, came into the game with a 25.7 percent points per game average. The Golden Bulls had two other players to score double figures.
Mark Thomas led the Blue Bears with 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Omar Ford-Bey played big off the bench and scored 16 points, while Anthony Welch added 10 points to finish the night.
The loss drops the Blue Bears to 14-4 overall and 6-3 in the CIAA. For the Golden Bulls, the win improves their record to 13-6 overall and 6-3 in the league.
The Blue Bears will travel to Raleigh, NC to face Saint Augustine's University on January 30. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
