SALISBURY, NC – The Livingstone men's basketball team completed the season sweep of St. Augustine's Saturday night as the Blue Bears defeated the Falcons 81-64 on senior night.
Saturday's contest was the final home game for seniors Greg Henry, Trone Jackson, Quintin Redfern, Darrius Sellers and Cody Paul.
The first half was very low scoring with neither team able to gain a real edge through the first 10 minutes. The Blue Bears came away from the first 10 minutes with a slim 15-13 lead over the Falcons. Livingstone slowly built its lead, but going into the final two minutes, only led by four. The Blue Bears able to close the first half on a 7-2 run to take a 28-19 lead into the break.
Early in the second half the Falcons did what the Blue Bears have done all season, score on the offensive end to try and get back in the game, but be unable to make the key defensive stop. St. Augustine's got the Livingstone lead down to three in the first five minutes and got back within two at 35-33 with 13:53 left in the contest.
Livingstone responded from the two-point deficit with a 10-0 run to open up a 12-point lead over the Falcons with 9:50 left in the contest. The Blue Bears opened their lead to as much as 19 points in the second half with 7:12 left, but the Falcons didn't go quietly. St. Augustine's got as close as 11 points, but the Blue Bears were able to seal the victory with solid free-throw shooting.
Nasir Austin led the Blue Bears with 14 points while seniors Quintin Redfern and Greg Henry each added 11 points. Henry and Trone Jackson each finished with six rebounds to lead the team.
Livingstone shot a solid 55.6 percent from the floor for the game including 40 percent from three-point range. The Blue Bears also shot 87.9 percent from the charity stripe.
The Blue Bears will return to play on Monday when they head on the road to Fayetteville, NC to take on the Broncos of Fayetteville State University in a 7:30 p.m. contest.
