In the Livingstone College's 73-65 win over Claflin University, both teams paid homage to the victims of the Newton, CT school shooting, on Monday in Trent Gymnasium. Junior, Jody Hill, Jr., (Detroit, MI) scored a game high 16 points.
Eladio Espinoza (Summit, NJ) opened up the Blue Bears night with a three pointer which was followed by two more; shot by
Mark Thomas (Saginaw, MI) and Hill.
Good defense by
Tyler Johnson (Raleigh, NC) made way for Espinoza's dunk in the open court at the 3:57 mark.
Livingstone ended the first half in the lead 35-26.
The Blue Bears led by as much as 18 points when Robert Flint (Landover, MD) forced the Panthers to turn the ball over, and went down the court for an easy lay-up.
At the 5:12 mark, Hill swept through Claflin's defense for a dunk to take the score to 58-46. After this point, the Blue Bears continued to remain in control of the game.
Claflin was able to cut the lead to eight points (73-65) but time expired, and Livingstone came out victorious.
Livingstone improved their record to 7-1 while Claflin dropped to 2-6 on the season.
Johnson finished the game with 13 points, four steals and four rebounds. Thomas scored 12 points for the Blue Bears while Espinoza and
Omar Ford-Bey (Chester, PA) scored 11 and 10 points respectively.
The Blue Bears will return to action on December 31 as they face Davis & Elkins College. Game time is slated for 2:00 p.m.
