Salisbury, NC- In front of a packed and energized crowd at William Trent Gymnasium, Livingstone College men's basketball delivered a heart-stopping finish, defeating Virginia State 60–59 in a CIAA showdown that came down to the final possession.
The game was a back-and-forth battle from start to finish, featuring five ties and nine lead changes. Livingstone trailed 25–24 at halftime but came out firing in the second half, hitting six three-pointers and pushing the pace to seize control. With less than a minute remaining, the Blue Bears clung to a one-point lead as Virginia State mounted a final push—but Livingstone's defense held firm, securing the win and sending the home crowd into celebration.
Kenneth Tyree Jr. led the charge with 17 points, including three clutch triples, while
Erick Coffey added 8 points and 3 steals off the bench.
Jeremiah Mobley and
Mohammed Mbye combined for 12 points, giving the Blue Bears a spark in crunch time.
Tim Uzochuwku was dominant inside with 16 points and 6 rebounds.
The Blue Bears return to action on Saturday, January 10, hosting Bluefield State in another CIAA doubleheader. The men tip off at 4:00 PM, following the women's game at 2:00 PM.
