Salisbury, NC – The Livingstone College men's basketball team defended home court Wednesday night but fell 96–80 to Fayetteville State University inside New Trent Gym.
Fayetteville State set the tone early, scoring 51 first‑half points behind efficient shooting and balanced scoring. The Broncos raced out to a double‑digit lead midway through the opening half and went into the break ahead 51–36, capitalizing on turnovers and strong interior play.
Livingstone responded with improved energy in the second half, outscoring Fayetteville State 44–45 and cutting into the deficit with stretches of strong defensive pressure and transition baskets. The Blue Bears showed resilience, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome as the Broncos maintained their lead throughout the contest.
Erick Coffey led the Blue Bears with a strong all‑around performance, finishing with 21 points and 11 rebounds for a double‑double.
James Nipper added 14 points, while
Omarion Bodrick contributed nine points, six rebounds, and three blocks on the defensive end. Livingstone received solid bench production as well, highlighted by
Jacob Hukins Jr.'s 10 points and
Jeremiah Mobley's eight points.
Fayetteville State was paced by Terrell Williams, who scored 19 points while shooting a perfect 7‑for‑7 from the free‑throw line. The Broncos placed six players in double figures and finished with 31 bench points, maintaining consistent scoring pressure throughout the game.
Both teams scored 42 points in the paint, but Fayetteville State held the edge at the free‑throw line and on second‑chance opportunities, while limiting Livingstone's perimeter efficiency.
Despite the loss, the Blue Bears showed improvement in the second half and remain focused as they move forward into the heart of conference play.
Livingstone will return home this Saturday, January 24, to host Johnson C. Smith University. The men's contest is scheduled for 4 p.m., following the women's game at 2 p.m., with start times subject to change due to inclement weather.
