Winston-Salem, NC- The Blue Bears faced a tough challenge on the road Saturday, falling to Winston-Salem State 42–10 at Bowman-Gray Stadium during the Rams' Homecoming game. The Blue Bears struggled to contain WSSU's explosive offense, which racked up over 500 total yards.
Winston-Salem State jumped out to an early lead with a 54-yard touchdown pass from Daylin Lee to Jayden Grimes just one minute into the game. The Rams added another score minutes later on a 6-yard run by JaQuan Kelly. Livingstone responded with a 41-yard field goal from
Jason Zapata, cutting the deficit to 14–3. However, WSSU continued to dominate, scoring two more touchdowns before halftime to take a 28–3 lead.
In the second half, WSSU added two more rushing touchdowns, including a 12-yard run by Kelly and a 20-yard scamper by Timothy Ruff II. Livingstone's lone touchdown came in the fourth quarter when
Alfredo Sotelo connected with
Jamal Haizlip for a 13-yard score, capping a 98-yard drive. However, WSSU sealed the game with a final score on a 20-yard run by Timothy Ruff II, ending the contest at 42–10.
Livingstone returns home on Saturday, October 25 to host Virginia University of Lynchburg at 2 PM for Senior Day. The Blue Bears will honor their graduating seniors and aim to close out the regular season with a strong performance against the Dragons.
