Salisbury, NC- In a thrilling conference matchup, the Livingstone Blue Bears triumphed over the Elizabeth City State Vikings, 23-17.
The game kicked off with both teams showcasing strong defenses, but it was the Vikings who drew first blood with a 30-yard field goal from Riley Higgins, capping an 8-play drive that covered 34 yards. With 3 points on the board, they took an early lead.
As the second quarter unfolded, Livingstone extended their advantage with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Christopher Garrett to
Chris Washington, following a meticulous 10-play, 74-yard drive. This pushed the score to 7-3 in favor of the Blue Bears. However, the Vikings quickly responded. Just before halftime, Terrance Holland caught a 12-yard pass from Damarcus Creecy, swinging momentum back to the Vikings as they led 10-7 after a successful kick by Higgins.
The third quarter saw the Vikings further assert themselves when Damarcus Creecy broke free for a 25-yard touchdown run, putting Elizabeth City State up 17-7 after a swift 4-play, 37-yard drive. Yet, the Blue Bears were far from finished.
Calvin Scott ignited the comeback with a powerful 39-yard run, capping a 13-play, 75-yard drive to narrow the gap to 17-14.
In the final quarter, Livingstone's offense gained momentum.
Zorian Wallace connected with
Hezekiah Massey for a 21-yard touchdown pass, flipping the score to 20-17. As the clock wound down,
Jason Zapata sealed the victory with a stunning 49-yard field goal, completing a 5-play drive and pushing the score to 23-17.
