Livingstone College Extends Winning Streak with Hard-Fought 24-19 Victory Over Fayetteville State

Salisbury, N.C.- In a thrilling matchup, Livingstone College extended their winning streak with a hard-fought 24-19 victory over Fayetteville State.

The scoring opened in the first quarter when Fayetteville State's John Hernandez-Vargas nailed a 29-yard field goal, giving the Broncos an early 3-0 lead after a 7-play, 18-yard drive that took 2:33 off the clock. Livingstone responded just before the end of the first quarter with a field goal of their own, as Jason Zapata connected from 22 yards out, capping an 11-play, 51-yard drive and tying the game at 3-3.

In the second quarter, Livingstone found their rhythm. De'Angelo Alston connected with Davontay Deloatch for a spectacular 36-yard touchdown pass, putting the Blue Bears ahead 10-3 after Zapata's successful extra point. Fayetteville State fought back, orchestrating a long drive that culminated in a 1-yard touchdown run by Syheam McQueen, leveling the score at 10-10 with just over a minute left in the half.

However, Livingstone wasn't done. In a pivotal moment, Jayden Reeder made a game-changing play with a 77-yard interception return for a touchdown, pushing the Blue Bears ahead 17-10 after another successful kick by Zapata.

The second half saw Livingstone continue to assert their dominance. Alston added to the lead with a 2-yard touchdown run, concluding a 10-play, 75-yard drive that put the Blue Bears up 24-10 midway through the third quarter. Fayetteville State wasn't ready to concede, though. They struck back in the fourth quarter with a 67-yard touchdown pass from Demari Daniels to Mali Harris-Strayhorn, narrowing the gap to 24-17 after Hernandez-Vargas' kick.

As the game wound down, Fayetteville State added a safety on the final play, making it 24-19. However, it wasn't enough to overcome Livingstone's lead.

The Blue Bears are back at home next Saturday, Oct 19, as they host Winston-Salem State at 4pm.
