RALEIGH, North Carolina – The Livingstone College men's basketball team dropped a midweek conference match-up to St. Augustine's Wednesday evening 74-72 in Emery Gymnasium.
The Blue Bears drop to (11-13, 7-8) in the season, while St. Augustine's University improves to (8-16, 5-10).
Livingstone was led by Omarion Broderick with a season-high of 18 points. Khyree Temple and De'Marr McCrae finished with 14 points.
St. Augustine's University was paced by Jaylen Richard with 21 points. Chance Jamison followed with 17 points. Nemo Johnson finished with 13 points. George Jones finished with 11 points.
The Falcons took a 28-20 lead with 7:01 left in the first half. The Falcons continued to add to their lead with a 33-24 advantage over the Blue Bears with 2:15 to go. A layup by Omarion Broderick put the Blue Bears down 35-29 at the half.
The Falcons took a 58-47 lead over the Blue Bears with 9:22 left in the game. Teon Tiller got the Blue Bears within four with two good free throws at the seven-minute mark, 58-54.
The Falcons took another double-digit lead over the Blue Bears with 3:32 left in the second half, 58-56. The Blue Bears played strong until the end. Arion Broadnax hit a last minute three-pointer, but it wasnt enought to give the Blue Bears the win.
Livingstone would end the game shooting 51.9% (28-of-54). St. Augustine's would make 29 of 52 overall for 55.8 percent.
The Falcons shot 43.5% from the free-throw line (10 out of 23). The Blue Bears went 65.0% from the free-throw line 13-of-20.
St. Augustine's outrebounded Livingstone, 34-29.
The Blue Bears will travel to Winston-Salem University Saturday, February 18. The first tip is set for 4:00 p.m.
