Livingstone Football Falls to JCSU in Commemorative Classic

SALISBURY, N.C. - The Blue Bears concluded their season Saturday afternoon in the Queen City, competing in the 131st annual Commemorative Classic against Johnson C. Smith. While Livingstone showed promise early and even owned a 10-7 lead, they'd ultimately end up on the short end, falling to the Golden Bulls, 38-17.

JCSU gained an early 7-0 lead by taking a fumbled punt return back for a touchdown. That lead wouldn't last long, as starting quarterback Brenton Hilton led the Blue Bears right down the field on the ensuing drive, ending with a perfectly thrown pass to Davontay Deloatch in the corner of the end zone for the score.

Halfway through the second wuarter, Livingstone marched back down the field but stalled at the 27 yard line which led to a success field goal by Jason Zapata, putting the Blue Bears ahead 10-7 with 8:37 remaining.

The Golden Bulls took the lead back late in the first half with a TD run to pull ahead, 17-10.

Out of the break, Marcus Drish threw a perfectly thrown ball down the left sideline, finding the hands of Ronja Delaney for an impressive 54-yard touchdown pass to knot the game at 17.

From there, JCSU buckled down and held Livingstone scoreless for the remainder of the game while putting up three more touchdowns of its own, taking the final game of the season, 38-17.
