SALISBURY, NC — The Livingstone College Blue Bears battled back from a 21-0 deficit during Stonecoming but ultimately fell to Fayetteville State University, 28-20.
Fayetteville State built its early lead with three first-half touchdowns, taking a 21-0 advantage into halftime before Livingstone came alive in the second half.
Angel Lopez provided the spark in the third quarter, returning a blocked field goal 65 yards for a touchdown to put the Blue Bears on the board.
Livingstone continued its comeback in the fourth quarter as
Brandon Edinburgh Jr. connected with Ronald Lindsey on a 2-yard touchdown pass. Moments later,
Louisden Paul returned a punt 30 yards for a touchdown, cutting the Fayetteville State lead to just 21-20 with 8:19 remaining.
The Broncos answered with a late touchdown drive to secure the 28-20 victory.
Despite the loss, Livingstone's second-half surge featured 20 unanswered points and two special-teams touchdowns, giving the Stonecoming crowd plenty to cheer about.
Livingstone looks to bounce back as the Blue Bears head to Virginia State University on Saturday, Oct. 10, with kickoff set for 2 p.m.
