SALISBURY, N.C. - Men's golf coach Andre Springs and his squad continue to show why they can compete amongst the best in the nation, as they claim their second-consecutive title by taking the top spot in the River City Collegiate Classic.
The Blue Bears headed north to Richmond, Virginia last weekend to compete in the three-day classic. Livingstone was one of six teams who competed in the classic, as Livingstone came out on top by one stroke, finishing at 621 on the weekend. Fayetteville State was a stroke behind at 622, while Virginia Union rounded out the top-three at 626.
After a long first day, the Blue Bears sat in third place at 310, nine strokes behind Virginia Union who led after the first round.
While Tuesday got off to a rocky start, Livingstone quicky turned the tide. A 19-shot trail of Virginia Union was quickly shortened, as the Blue Bears' leading top golfers of the day (Emmanuel Jakisa, Ibrahim Aliga, and Dennis Asaba) accumulatively shot a -7 to climb back into the top-two. Eventually, Livingstone would take the lead and take down Fayetteville State by a single stroke.Â
Asaba, who was Livingstone's top golfer, finishing second overall amongst individual golfers with a 150 (+4). He had a nice second day, shooting four birdies in the front nine while adding an eagle in the back nine.
Jakisa also had a huge second-day impact, shining brightest in holes 14-16, respectively shooting a birdie, an eagle and another birdie in that span.Â
Aliga added four birdies and an eagle of his own, including three birdies in the front nine, and a birdie and an eagle in the back nine.
