SALISBURY, N.C. - Over 4,500 showed up to Alumni Memorial Stadium Saturday afternoon to attend Livingstone's homecoming, as the Blue Bears played host to Shaw University. A back-and-forth game set the stage for an exciting fourth quarter, which would result in the Blue Bears pulling off a miraculous last-second comeback, receiving a 19-yard pass as time expired to come out on top, 27-26.
Livingstone found themselves down 6-0 at the end of the first quarter after Shaw drove down the field and scored the first touchdown of the game. They'd miss the extra point and carry a 6-0 lead heading into the second quarter.
Halfway through the second,
Brenton Hilton found wide receiver
Matthew Henry open in the endzone to tie the game at six before the extra point would put them ahead, 7-6.
With time winding down in the half, Livingstone mustered together a 51-yard drive that was capped off with a one-yard scamper by
JyMikaah Wells for his fifth touchdown of the season, giving the Blue Bears a 14-6 lead heading into halftime.
Out of the half, Shaw would re-gain its momentum, as two long TD-runs by the Bears would help them re-claim the lead, 19-14, heading into the final quarter of play.
Shaw's lead would grow to 26-14 halfway through the fourth quarter, however Livingstone refused to go down without a fight.
With just four minutes on the clock, Wells found himself back in the endzone with his second one-yard TD-run of the day to cut the deficit to five.
The Blue Bears' defense would force a punt on the ensuing drive, getting the ball back at Shaw's 47 yardline with 2:46 remaining. The ensuing sequence of events saw both teams commit crucial pass interference penalties, which would result in Livingstone possessing the ball at Shaw's 19 with one second left.
With the clock hitting zero,
Marcus Drish took the snap and stepped up in the pocket, firing a perfectly-placed laser in the back of the endzone that found the hands of Henry yet again, sealing the thrilling victory for the Blue Bears.
