Men's Golf Takes Top Spot in SAS HBCU Invitational

SALISBURY, N.C. - Livingstone's men's golf program continued its success on the course late last week, taking the top spot in the 2023 SAS HBCU Invitational, held in Cary, N.C.

Thursday kicked off the festivities, as the team was able to attend a career day fair and found learning opportunities about the company and the services they provide to the community. This was proceeded by the practice round in preparation for the invitational over the weekend.

Day 1 of competition took place on Saturday, October 14. The invitational typically includes 36 holes, however this was cut short early on due to inclement weather. Livingstone concluded a long first day of competition in first place, leading by six shots after 15 holes of play, ahead of Winston-Salem State, Miles College, and Johnson C. Smith.

The final day of the tournament saw the Blue Bears continue to find success on the course, as they'd hold onto the lead for the remained of the tournament, finishing in the top spot by 12 shots. Miles finished closely behind in second, while Johnson C. Smith rounded out the top-three.

After a strong weekend of competition, sophomore Ibrahim Aliga, who shot a +1 over the 36 holes, led the individual leaderboard for the weekend. Captain Emmanuel Jakisa finished right behind Aliga in second on the player leaderboard, shooting a +3.
