Blue Bears Fall to Allen, 3-1

COLUMBIA, South Carolina – Livingstone Volleyball (0-2) dropped a 3-1 decision (16-25, 16-25, 25-23,23-25) to Allen (5-1) Tuesday evening at Adams Gym.

The Blue Bears hit 27 kills and 26 assists, 11 aces on the day, and registered 54 digs. Allen hit .163 vs. their .217 in Sunday's match. 

The Yellow Jackets hit 43 kills in the match with 40 assists, ten aces, and six blocks.

Outside Hitter Tiffany Chandler led the Blue Bears eight kills (.125), while setter Dekiya Wilson-Thomas finished with ten digs and 12 assists. 

Defensive Specialist Serenity Lunnermon recorded seven digs and ten assists. Bethany Williams logged 11 digs, and Ja'Nya Lunnermon logged ten digs. 

  

Set 1

  • Livingstone used a couple of 3-0 runs to build 10-10 tie. Allen quickly went up by two with errors by the Blue Bears. 
  • An attack error and block by Tiffany Chandler and Taylor Grant gave the Blue Bears the lead, 13-12.
  • Ultimately, two 5-0 runs gave Allen a 22-14 advantage. Livingstone scored their final point with a ball handling error by Kayla Chambliss, but Allen pulled away for the 25-16 set win.

Set 2

  • The Blue Bears took an early 2-0 lead in the set, but the Yellow Jackets went on a 9-0 run to take the lead.
  • Livingstone rallied back to take another lead of 10-11 with a kill by Doris Ajagbe.
  • The Blue Bears couldn't piece together enough runs to regain lead, but Allen had a few 3-0 runs to take set two, 25-16.

Set 3

  • The Blue Bears led set three once again on a 2-0 run.
  • Allen went on a 7-0 run to take a 8-3 lead. The Blue Bears rallied back to tie it up 17-17.
  • The Blue Bears kept it close and held on to take set three 25-23.

Set 4 

  • Tiffany Chandler made it known the Blue Bears weren't backing by making a huge kill to begin set four.
  • The Yellow Jackets found themselves ahead again after a few 3-0 runs. The Blue Bears kept it close and tied it up 6-6.
  • The Blue Bears took a two point lead after another kill by Chandler, 22-20.
  • Allen went on a 4-0 run and closed out set four 25-23.

The Blue Bears open up conference play, as they host Claflin University Thursday, September 15 in New Trent Gym. The first serve is set for 6:00 p.m.
