SALISBURY – Livingstone Volleyball (0-3,0-1) dropped a 3-0 decision (9-25, 10-25, 18-25) to Claflin (5-0,1-0) Thursday evening at New Trent Gym.
The Blue Bears hit 15 kills and 13 assists, three aces on the day, and registered 47 digs. Claflin hit .226.
The Panthers hit 27 kills in the match with 23 assists, 11 aces, and four blocks.
Bethany Williams led the Blue Bears with 12 digs, while setter Dekiya Wilson-Thomas finished with seven digs and six assists.
Set 1
- Claflin went on a 10-0 run to build a 13-3 lead. Livingstone quickly scored three with three straight kills.
- Another 8-0 run by the Panthers quickly put them up 24-8. A service error gave the Blue Bears their final point of the set.
- Ultimately, a kill by Chidera Wilson gave the Panthers set 1, 25-9.
Set 2
- The Panthers took an early 4-0 lead in the set. Taylor Grant gave the Blue Bears their first point with a kill, assisted by Serenity Lunnermon.
- The Panthers went on a 6-0 run to continue their lead 10-1.
- The Blue Bears couldn't find a steady rhythm and the Panthers had a few more 3-0 runs to close out the set 25-10.
Set 3
- The Blue Bears went on a 4-0 run to take their first lead of the game, 6-4.
- Claflin came back on a 6-0 run to take back the lead, 13-11.
- The Blue Bears tied it up with another big kill by Taylor Grant.
- The Panthers went on another 4-0 run to take the lead, 18-14.
- Another 5-0 run by the Panthers put them one point away from the win, 24-18.
- Claflin went on to win over the Blue Bears with a final kill by Taneja Robinson, 25-18.
