Volleyball Drops Season Opener To Allen University

SALISBURY – Livingstone Volleyball (0-1) dropped a 3-0 decision (7-25, 18-25, 18-20) to Allen (3-1) Sunday afternoon at New Trent Gym.

The Blue Bears hit 16 kills and 13 assists. The Blue Bears also had five aces on the day and registered 29 digs. Allen hit .217 in the match with 26 kills, 21 assists, five aces, and six blocks.

Outside Hitter Tiffany Chandler led the Blue Bears with four kills, seven digs, and 17 assists, while middle blocker Taylor Grant finished with three kills.

Bethany Williams logged eight digs and five assists. 

Set 1

  • Allen used a couple of 3-0 runs to build a 10-3 lead. Livingstone responded with a kill by Doris Ajagbe, 10-4.
  • The Yellow Jackets increased its run to four unanswered points for a 14-4 lead.
  • Ultimately, another 4-0 run gave Allen a 20-6 advantage. Livingstone scored their final point with a kill by Tiffany Chandler, but Allen pulled away for the 25-7 set win.

Set 2

  • The Yellow Jackets led 3-0 early in the set, but the Blue Bears rallied back to tie it up 5-5 with an ace by Serenity Lunnermon
  • Livingstone kept the set within reach of 2 when Allen pieced together a 4-0 run to take a 13-7 lead.
  • The Blue Bears pieced together a 4-0 run to bring the set within 5, but two quick errors landed the Yellow Jackets with the set win, 25-18.

Set 3

  • The Blue Bears started the set with a big Kill by Tiffany Chandler, giving the Blue Bears their first lead.
  • Allen kept it close, pulling within two. Livingstone held their lead until the Yellow Jacket tied it up with a kill by Kayla Chambliss, 6-6.
  • Allen built its lead back up to a 15-9 advantage and took the set 25-19 to win the set.

Up Next

The Blue Bears hit the road for the first time this year and will have a chance for redemption when they will challenge Allen in Adams Gymnasium. The first serve is set for 6:30 p.m.
