SALISBURY, NC March 15, 2022 – Livingstone College has released its 2022 football schedule. The season kicks off with a rematch with a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent at home and a non-conference game with a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association opponent on the road.
Head coached by NFL great
Sean Gilbert, Livingstone went 1-8 overall and 1-5 in CIAA play in 2021. The Blue Bears will open the 2022 season at home taking on SIAC opponent Savannah State University (Sept. 3) in the West End Classic. This game will be highlighted with the grand opening of the renovated Alumni Stadium and Track, with a brand new state-of-the-art video scoreboard and stereo PA system. In conjunction with support from The Willie Lanier Honey Bear Project and a major investment by Livingstone College, under the leadership of college President Dr. Jimmy R. Jenkins, Sr., Livingstone is able to install a new field, track and digital scoreboard.
New private seats will also be installed. These new seats will replace the old PSL seats. Each PSL is a yearly payment of $250.00. The owner will receive one of the 120 premium seats with their name or organization on it and a season pass for each purchase.
Each of these initiatives catapults the Livingstone College Athletic program to be able to compete with many other Division II programs in the country. In addition, this also ensures that the athletic department will provide a great fan experience and advertising opportunities for businesses.
The following week will be a non-conference game against CIAA opponent, Elizabeth City State University (Sept. 10) in Rocky Mount, NC.
Coach Gilbert will lead the Blue Bears into CIAA play with a cross-divisional game against Virginia Union University (Sept. 17) in Richmond, VA. The Blue Bears will return home to face Virginia State University (Sept. 24) on Military and First Responders Day.
Livingstone will be traveling north to play Bowie State University (Oct 1). Then return back home to play Winston Salem State University (Oct 8) for Youth, Community Organization and Senior Day.
The Livingstone Blue and Black will stay home for a Homecoming 2022 matchup against Fayetteville State University (Oct 15). Then back on the road for two games, first against Shaw University (Oct 22) and then St. Augustine's University (Oct 29).
The Blue Bears return home and complete the regular season against archrival Johnson C. Smith University (Nov 5) in the 130
th Commemorative Classic. This classic commemorates the first collegiate football game played by all HBCU's.
The 2022 CIAA Championship is scheduled for Nov. 12 in Salem, VA.
