During the 2026 Commemorative Classic, Livingstone College Athletics will honor Hall of Fame recipient Horace Ballard, a recognition that offers an opportunity to celebrate the person behind the name and give him his flowers in the presence of the Blue Bear community.

At Livingstone, where the story of Black college football began, the Commemorative Classic invites us to reflect on the people who give that history meaning. This year, Ballard holds a special place in that celebration.

A Hall of Fame honor creates a lasting place in an institution's story. It also creates a moment for something deeply personal: appreciation. For Ballard, this recognition is an opportunity for the Livingstone community to say, "You are part of our history, and we are proud to celebrate you."

There is power in offering that recognition today. Too often, we wait to tell people how much their presence matters. The Commemorative Classic gives Livingstone an occasion to speak those words with intention, to surround Ballard with gratitude and allow him to experience the pride that accompanies this honor.

For the student-athletes who will witness the celebration, his recognition offers a reminder that their connection to Livingstone can extend far beyond their time on campus. They are becoming part of a story that future generations will inherit. Honoring those who came before them helps make that connection visible.

As alumni, families, and supporters gather at Alumni Memorial Stadium on November 7, 2026, the celebration of Ballard will belong alongside the excitement of the game. His name deserves to be spoken with pride, his recognition deserves to be met with applause, and this moment deserves to be shared with those who hold him close.

Horace Ballard, Livingstone College Athletics celebrates you. May this honor bring you joy, remind you that you are valued, and give you a lasting memory of a community coming together in your name.

Congratulations on your Hall of Fame recognition.
